2019 Beaune 1er cru « Les Teurons »

(from a .27 ha holding). Pretty aromas blend notes of both red and dark berries that are cut with nuances of earth and discreet floral whiffs. There is fine verve to the delicious middle weight flavors that possess a plump, round and fleshy texture before concluding in a youthfully austere and sneaky long finale. This refreshing effort should drink well after only a few years of bottle aging yet reward up to a decade of it. 91 pts/2026+

2019 Beaune 1er cru « Champs Pimont »

(from a .63 ha holding). A spicier and slightly more deeply pitched nose features notes of plum, dark raspberry and freshly turned earth. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the detailed, intense and lightly stony medium weight flavors that also culminate in a youthfully austere finish that is just a bit firmer. This is very Beaune in basic character. 91 pts/2027+

2019 Volnay 1er cru « En Carelle »

A mentholated top note is present on the equally spicy if cooler aromas of red currant, violet and a hint of lavender. The sleek and lacy but solidly intense flavors exude evident minerality on the balanced and lingering finale. This is even more firmly structured, yet the supporting tannins are quite fine-grained and thus it should be approachable on the younger side if that’s your preference. 92/2029+

2019 Volnay 1er cru « Clos de la Chapelle » monopole

(a .55 ha monopole). This is also aromatically ripe yet cool with its elegant and pure aromas of red and blue pinot fruit that possess a lovely array of spice and floral elements. The refined and equally pure mouthfeel is similar to that of the Carelle in that it’s super-sleek and beautifully well-detailed while exuding an attractive minerality on the succulent but firm finale that confirms that this will need a decade plus of cellaring to realize its fully potential. One to check out. 92/2029+

2019 Volnay 1er cru « Les Taillepieds Vieilles Vignes »

This had just been bottled and was showing the effects as the nose was moderately reduced though I would not expect it to linger unduly. Otherwise there is excellent volume, intensity and richness to the concentrated medium-bodied flavors that evidence focused power on the compact, youthfully austere and built-to-age finish. This excellent mineral-driven effort is textbook Taillepieds. 93/2031+

2019 Pommard 1er cru « Les Chanlins Vieilles Vignes »

(from a .25 ha parcel). There is an interesting suggestion of sweetness to the layered nose of red cherry, acacia, lavender and anise scents. There is impressive volume and concentration to the bigger bodied and just as mineral-driven flavors that are not as refined but do offer fine depth on the equally austere and compact finale. There is good power and punch and this is a wine that will need at least 6 to 8 years of cellaring first. 92/2031+

2019 Pommard 1er cru « Les Grands Epenots »

Aromas of poached plum, spice warm earth and a floral top note introduce rich and seductively textured flavors that are at once caressing yet powerful while coating the palate with sappy dry extract that also buffers the moderately austere and decidedly firm finale. This fine effort has excellent development potential and is a wine that’s also going to need at least 6 to 8 years of keeping before it will be reasonably approachable. 93/2034+

2019 Corton-Bressandes Grand Cru

Subtle but not imperceptible wood sets off the interesting blend of spice and the sauvage-suffused nose of forest floor, red and dark raspberry and evident earth influence. There is terrific volume to the dense, muscular and powerful large-scaled flavors that retain a good sense of delineation on firmly structured, austere and hugely long finish. This is a classic Bressandes, which is to say a big wine of refinement and power though I underscore that I wouldn’t touch a bottle before 10 years have passed. 94/2036+

2019 Beaune 1er cru « Les Reversées »

An overtly floral suffused nose also offers up hints of various white fleshed fruit and honeysuckle. There is both good cut and intensity to the delicious middle weight flavors that are clean, dry and refreshing if not especially complex though more depth may well develop with a few years of aging. 89/2024+

2019 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er cru « Sous Frétille »

A more classic and cooler nose features notes of green apple, citrus, petrol and a touch of matchstick character. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the markedly more mineral-inflected flavors that are ever drier on the delineated and youthfully austere finish. This is lovely and also more tightly wound. 91/2026+

2019 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

(from En Charlemagne in Pernand). Chablis-like aromas include those of iodine and oyster shell on the cool green apple and lemon-lime scents. The super-sleek and almost painfully intense medium weight plus flavors exhibit focused power on the youthfully austere, palate coating and sneaky long finish that makes clear this is very much built to age. At least some patience strongly advised. 93/2029+
